Aaron Opio struck the decisive goal for the Ugandan side, handing Musingu a disappointing start to their title defence.
Musingu head coach Michael Malungu admitted his side was wasteful in front of goal and expressed dissatisfaction with some officiating decisions.

“We were ineffective in the match, we didn’t take our chances, and also the umpire made decisions that really affected us.
It’s a round robin and we now focus on the next matches to maximise points. We focus on the next match against Ntare,” said Malungu.
Girls Hockey
In the girls’ hockey category, reigning champions St. Joseph’s Girls Kitale were held to a goalless draw by Ng’iya Girls. Ng’iya head coach George Nyadida said the result was below expectations.
“We are disappointed by the draw because we expected a win in the first match. We now focus on the next match,” said Nyadida.

In another match, Tigoi Girls began their campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Uganda’s Bweranyangi 9-0.
Diana Namachanja led the scoring with four goals, followed by Lavender Phily with three and Tracy Ilusa with one.
Despite the massive win, Tigoi coach Moses Erima felt his side should have been more clinical.
“We won, but I wasn’t really impressed with the win. We deserved to win by more goals. We will work on how we can convert more as we proceed,” noted Erima.
In boys’ hockey, St. Anthony’s Kitale earned a 2-1 victory over M-Pesa Foundation Academy. Kelvin Onyango and Collins Kimtai found the net for the Kitale side, while Howard Mark scored the lone goal for M-Pesa Foundation.
Rugby 15s
On the rugby 15s pitch, Kenyan champions Vihiga High School overcame a spirited challenge from Uganda’s Namilyango College to win 20-15.

Vihiga head coach Abdallah Abubakar praised his forwards for their hard work, despite admitting to some early technical lapses.
“It was a very tough match that ended with a very close margin. My forward line did most of the work; the backline didn’t do much.
We had a few technical mistakes with the rules, but we thank God for the strong start. This win will propel us to work harder because it’s home ground and our goal is to lift this trophy,” said Abubakar.
Upper Hill School also started their rugby campaign with a 26-19 win over Jinja SS.
Head coach Victor Wagwe acknowledged the competitive nature of the opening fixture and stressed the need for consistency.
“It was a good game. We thought they would bring their best foot forward in the first game because it’s always a tough game.
We’ll take it game by game — everybody here is a champion, and we expect all the subsequent games to be equally competitive and tough. We just have to keep our minds in it for the hour,” said Wagwe.
The action continues as teams look to build momentum in the race for FEASSSA glory.
